It all makes sense, and I certainly didn't think it would simply be a drop in these elements and go! We spent many hours to develop quick system of resolving the hits and the "damage ladder" was the best solution. It represents the situation of hits overwhemling the defences: whatever it's armour and/or shields and the Damage control may represent both damage parties work and slow shields recharge.<br /><br />Point defence was included for a few reasons: first it's cool and work well on imagination especailly at close-combat :)<br />Second it's the balancing factor increasing the defence of bigger squadron comparing to the small ones.<br />Third: its make the squadron composition more challenging as you need to provide proper anti-missile defence and it's gives a lot of sense to choose balanced squadron pre-sets.<br />Fourth: it allows to compose fighters in huge battles system in simple and elegant way.<br /><br />Generally the weapons are divided into artillery as element of destuction, missiles are the element of disorganisation and fighters as element of support and flexibility. Min-maxing the squadrons can be deadly effective, but it's double -egded weapon...<br /><br />Finally - note that S'n'S are designed not only as quick ruleset, but also it's a framework for modules. At the beginning there is only one module, but we are working on the new ones.
